1000 Mbps Gigabit Multimode Fiber Optic Ethernet Media Converter - SC - 550 M

As electronic connectivity continues to improve in businesses and homes, bringing faster and clearer data signals over longer distances, it brings new challenges to overcome. For instance:

  • How do you integrate fiber optic and non-fiber-optic connectivity?
  • With so many types of audio/video connections on the market, how do you ensure your various A/V components stay compatible?
  • How do you add Power over Ethernet (PoE) capabilities to your network?
  • How do you incorporate more USB devices to computers with limited USB ports?

Fortunately, ShowMeCables offers affordable devices that answer all those questions. We have:

  • Converters that provide interfaces to fiber optic lines from Ethernet, serial, and USB lines
  • A/V converters that help connect your audio/video gear to the latest ports
  • PoE injectors, splitters, and switches to help you combine your power and data lines
  • USB hubs that allow your computer to handle more USB lines

Below we describe these product solutions, many of which have been added to our inventory in recent months.

Ethernet-to-Fiber Media Converters

Ethernet-to-fiber media converters allow you to integrate fiber optic cabling with copper-based Ethernet networks. Here’s a breakdown of their function and usage:

  • Media Conversion: For copper-based Ethernet equipment (such as switches, routers, and computers), they convert electrical signals into optical signals for transmission over fiber, and then convert incoming optical signals back into electrical signals.
  • Distance Extension: Fiber optic cables transmit data over longer distances without signal degradation compared to copper cables.
  • Immunity to Electromagnetic Interference (EMI): These converters allow you to take advantage of the EMI immunity of fiber optics while still connecting to Ethernet devices.
  • Network Expansion: If you want to connect devices that are beyond the typical distance limitations of copper cables, Ethernet-to-fiber media converters provide a solution.

ShowMeCables’ Ethernet-to-fiber media converters are available:

  • In both single mode and multimode
  • At ratings of 100 Mbps, 10/100 Mbps, 1000 Mbps, and 10/100/1000 Mbps
  • With maximum transfer distances between 500 meters and 60 kilometers

Serial-to-Fiber Converters

Power over Ethernet (PoE) serial-to-fiber converters convert serial data (information sent sequentially, one bit at a time, over a single channel) from a copper cable to optical fiber. They can be used to extend the distance of serial communication or to protect serial data from electromagnetic interference.

We offer both simplex and duplex converters. Simplex converters support one-way communication, point to point, and can cover longer distances if needed. Duplex converters support two-way communication, point to multipoint, and can cover both short and long distances.

Our single-mode converters are typically used for longer-distance communication and with a higher bandwidth. Our multimode converters are often used for shorter-distance communication within buildings or campuses and are more cost-effective for shorter ranges.

USB-to-Fiber Converters

USB-to-fiber converters allow you to connect a USB device to a fiber optic network. They are often used for transmitting data over long distances or in areas that are prone to EMI. They are also used in security applications, where the fiber optic cable provides a more secure connection than copper cables.

We carry both single-mode and multimode converters, and they cover either USB 2.0, with its maximum data transfer rate of 480 Mbps, or USB 3.0, which handles data rates up to 5 Gbps.

A/V Converters

Audio/video converters allow you to connect different types of audio and video devices that don’t have the same signal types. For example, for a presentation, you might need to mate a computer with an HDMI port to a projector with a VGA port – for which you would get an HDMI-to-VGA converter.

Our wide variety of A/V converters include audio, BNC, DVI, HDMI, RCA, S-Video, USB, and VGA. Adapter types include:

  • BNC to VGA
  • Digital coax to RCA
  • DVI to VGA
  • HDMI to VGA
  • Optical audio to digital coax or to RCA
  • RCA to optical audio, to digital coax, to HDMI, or to VGA
  • SDI to HDMI
  • USB to 3.5 mm or to HDMI

Power over Ethernet (PoE) Hardware

Our PoE hardware selection includes injectors, splitters, and switches.

A PoE injector injects electrical power onto an Ethernet cable to supply power to PoE-enabled devices. The PoE injector is inserted between a non-PoE switch or router and a PoE-enabled device, such as an IP camera, wireless access point, or VoIP phone, allowing power and data to be transmitted over a single Ethernet cable. We also carry a line of single-port Cat5 passive PoE injectors.

A PoE splitter allows a PoE-enabled Ethernet cable to be split into separate power and data cables. The power cable can then be connected to a non-PoE enabled device that requires power, such as a security camera or a wireless access point. PoE splitters are used in situations where a non-PoE device is located far from a power outlet, or where the installation of new power outlets would be expensive or impractical.

A PoE switch spreads a single PoE cable to many different devices, eliminating the need for separate power cables for each device and simplifying installation and setup. Our desktop PoE switches offer options of five or eight ports and handle data speeds up to 1000 Mbps.

USB Hubs

Do you have more USB devices than your computer can accommodate? Most of us do. Thank goodness for USB hubs, which allow you to expand the number of USB ports available on your computer. Simply plug a USB hub, with its multiple USB ports, into one of your computer’s USB ports.

We have powered USB hubs that handle USB 2.0 and/or USB 3.0 cables and have either four ports or seven ports. They offer transfer rates of up to a speedy 5 Gbps to meet the needs of full HD media.

Our new media converters, PoE hardware, and USB hubs are in stock and available with same-day shipping. In-stock products ordered before 5 p.m. ET ship the same day. Flat-rate UPS ground shipping is only $8.99.
