The busiest part of a network rack – the back of it, where so many cables connect – is often the hardest area to reach. But there’s a smart solution to this: a wall-mount swing-gate rack. For most of the time, a wall-mount swing-gate rack keeps your components up off the floor and against a wall where it won’t get in your way. But when you need to access equipment and cables, it quickly swings open a full 180 degrees to allow you to reach the back of your gear.
Below are the six main benefits of this type of equipment rack. We included two tables showing features of ShowMeCables’ new lines of wall-mount enclosed racks and open-frame racks with the swing-gate feature.
Benefits of Swing-Gate Racks
- Enhanced Accessibility: The swing-gate design allows easy access to the rear of the rack, making it much simpler to manage cables, connections, and equipment ports. This is particularly useful for maintenance, upgrades, or troubleshooting, where quick access to the back of the rack is essential.

Office space is not exactly getting cheaper, and thus many organizations have turned to vertical wall racks to optimize their use of available square footage, especially in cramped data centers and IT closets. Vertical wall racks can do two things to maximize room space. First, they can get some of your equipment up off the floor to open up your floor plan. Second, they can take advantage of wall space you didn’t know you had.
As a bonus, vertical enclosures with a white finish offer aesthetic benefits as well.
Vertical racks are top-loading, positioning your components 90 degrees to face the ceiling. Unlike horizontal racks, which can extend 2 to 3 feet from the wall, a 2U vertical enclosure projects less than 5 inches. These racks are tall enough (up to 35 inches in ShowMeCables’ vertical models) to accommodate your deepest components, but by hugging the wall with their modest depths, they do a lot of work without being obtrusive.
Below we touch on three major advantages of these innovative
