RJ45 is the type of connector used on ethernet (Internet) cables. RJ45 connectors look like larger versions of RJ12 (telephone) connectors. Each RJ45 connector has eight metal pins, one for each of the individual wires inside an ethernet cable. RJ45 comes in different varieties, depending on the Category of ethernet cable they are for and what type of ethernet cable they go with (solid, stranded, flat, etc.). Make sure to check that the RJ45 selected is compatible with the type of ethernet cable being used. RJ45 can also be sized and shaped a little differently when being used for Cat6a and Cat7, which requires a different crimp tool.
