Gender changers, as the name implies, are designed to change the gender of a cable connector. Usually, gender changers are used to connect two cables together, allowing existing cables to be extended instead of having to purchase and set up an entirely new cable. Gender changers can be male/male or female/female, although the female/female version (which allows a male cable end to become female) are more common since most cables are made using male ends. Male/male gender changers are typically seen with coax cable. Gender changers are also referred to as couplers since they couple two different cables together.
