Coaxial (coax) cable uses a metal core (usually copper or copper-clad steel) to send signals. Coax cables come in two main varieties, RG (Radio Guide) and LMR (Low Loss). RG is the older of the two designations, having been used for most of the coax cables that have been invented for over 100 years. Common coax cables are either 50 or 75 ohms, so be sure to select the right kind since they are not compatible. LMR cables were developed to serve as replacements for their older RG counterparts. In general, LMR cables will be better than the RG equivalent.
