FAQs
What are NEMA weatherproof enclosures used for?
NEMA weatherproof enclosures are ideal for protecting electrical, networking, and industrial control equipment from environmental hazards like dust, water, corrosion, and physical impacts. They are designed for both indoor and outdoor installation environments.
What NEMA ratings are available for these enclosures?
These indoor/outdoor enclosures come with NEMA 3R, NEMA 4X, and NEMA 6P ratings, with UL-listed models also available. Each rating level corresponds to a different degree of protection against environmental conditions such as water and dust ingress.
What materials are NEMA enclosures made from?
NEMA-rated enclosures are made of polycarbonate, ABS, fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP), or 304 stainless steel. Material selection can be an important factor for chemical resistance, durability, and the specific environmental exposure of an installation.
What sizes are available for NEMA indoor/outdoor enclosures?
NEMA indoor/outdoor enclosures are available in a wide range of sizes, including 10x8x3, 18x16x4, 24x24x10, 24x24x6, 24x16x9, 20x16x11, 20x16x8, 20x16x4, 18x16x10, 18x16x8, 16x14x4, 10x8x5, 14x12x7, 14x12x6, 14x12x4, 14x10x6, 14x10x4, 12x10x6, 12x10x5, 12x10x4, and 30x24x11 inches. This range supports equipment of varying footprints and mounting requirements.
How are internal temperatures regulated in a NEMA enclosure?
To control the proper operating temperatures inside an enclosure, specific models include a cooling fan, vented lid, heater, or a combination of both the heater and cooling fan. These options help ensure the reliable operation of electronic equipment housed inside.
What is a clear lid NEMA enclosure used for?
A NEMA enclosure with a clear lid provides an unobstructed view inside the enclosure, allowing for the monitoring of installed equipment and its data readout, activity, or warning lights without the need to open the lid. This supports quick visual checks while keeping the enclosure sealed.
Are powered NEMA enclosures available?
Yes, NEMA enclosures are available in non-powered options, as well as powered versions utilizing 120V AC or Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). Powered models support equipment that needs an internal power source directly within the enclosure.
What mounting options are available inside NEMA enclosures?
Many NEMA enclosures come with a blank mounting plate, mounting rails, drilled mounting plate, powered mounting plate, or hook-and-loop tape. These mounting options support a variety of equipment installation methods inside the enclosure.
Need help selecting the right NEMA weatherproof enclosure for your project? Our technical team provides support on NEMA rating selection (3R, 4X, 6P), material choice (polycarbonate, ABS, FRP, stainless steel), temperature control options (fan, heater, vented lid), and mounting configurations for your specific indoor or outdoor application.
