Multi-Network Cable Tester - Ethernet & Coax

The Multi-Network Cable tester is used for both Coax and Ethernet cables. The tester has a RJ45 port and remote tester. A BNC socket and BNC terminator is also included for coax testing. By using a BNC adapter, many other coax cable types can be tested by this product.  The tester can also be used to test shielding.

Q: What is a cable tester?


A: A cable tester is a device used to test the signal strength or connection for a type of cable or network of cables.  There are many different types of cable testers and each test specific cable or several different types.

Q: What are different types of Cable Testers?


A: Verification – A cable tester can verify whether or not the cables wired are properly connected and paired.  This type of tester will reveal any problems in the cables.


Qualification – These types of testers cover everything that the verification equipment test but they will also tell you how well the cable supports data transfers.


Certification – These cable testers are the most sophisticated of the three. They cover the functions of both verification and qualification but they also can create a schematic of the entire network.

Instructions


To test a coaxial cable plug one end into the master unit in the appropriate BNC socket. Then plug the other end to the BNC terminator piece. With a simple push of a button the BNC LED indicator will light up green if the cable is OK. If there is a problem with the cable the BNC LED indicator will either light up red or not light up at all.


To test 10-Base-T 10-Base-T AT&T 258A EIA/TIA 568 and Token Ring Cable plug one end of the cable to the jack of the master unit and the other end to the remote terminator. When the power is on the remote terminator will quickly auto-scan for wire continuity mis-wiring and polarization. If the cable is okay the LEDs corresponding to each pair connected will light green. If the LED is lighted green first and red after (mix) or is unlighted the cable is bad.


The tester can also be used to test shielding. By simply pushing the GND button the LED will light up with all green except the LED of pair 3 & 6 to indicate proper shielding. If any LED is lighted green first and red after or unlighted the shielding is bad.
