Q: Why do I need to use a wall plate?

If you are connecting cables to equipment too far away to hide the cable, running the cable through the wall plate behind a wall is the best solution to keep installation organized.

A: Wall plates are very specific for your intended use. Gang is one feature used to distinguish how many ‘side-by-side’ elements in an electrical box are included in the wall plate. Gang does not refer to the number of ports available, for example a double-gang wall plate may offer 4 ports.
