Solid Cat5e Ethernet cable is the most popular cable for long, stationary runs, in a home or office network. While solid conductor cable is not as flexible as those with stranded conductors, it provides better performance over longer distances. This cable is sold by the foot; order just what you need. Solid Cat5e is commonly terminated to an RJ45 connector, jack, or patch panel.

Features:

  • PVC Jacket
  • Solid 24 AWG Bare Copper Conductors
  • Tested to 350 MHz
  • Meets Cat5e Standards
  • RoHS Compliant
  • UL-Listed
  • CMX Rated
  • Max Continuous Length: 1000 FT

Please note: All products that are bought per foot are non-returnable.

Any amount of cable you order above the maximum continuous length of 1000 FT will be sent in separate pieces.

PROS: The product works really well; Super fast
    CONS: None specified
I decided to purchase the CAT5e cable, RJ45 connectors and a variety of hardware to assemble the straight-through Ethernet cable for connecting my desktop and laptop computers to the Internet. Note, the crossover cable is for connecting computers to an intranet via Network Interface Cards installed in the computers. Assembly is somewhat awkward. The colored wires must be untwisted and straightened by hand. Then arranging the wires in the proper configuration is very unwieldy. Inserting the wires into the RJ45 connector is very easy. The problem is, I am about 80% successful making a satisfactory connection as shown by the cable testing instrument. During my time on the ShowMeCables Website, I noticed that CAT6a cable was available. I ordered the CAT6a cable, and the CAT6a cable wires are too large for the RJ45 connector. I then ordered CAT6 cable and CAT6 RJ45 connectors with guides for arranging the colored wires. I am waiting for the CAT6 cable to arrive in the mail. The CAT5e straight-through cable works and connects to the Internet with no difficulty. I have now upgraded my Internet Ethernet connection cable. Also, the CAT5e cable wires are compatible with the guides for the CAT6 RJ45 connectors. I sincerely thank ShowMeCables for your help and advice.

Pulled from box fairly easily. The pull string within the cable was a bit weak but overall pretty good cable. The only thing that would make this a better deal is free shipping if your total purchase is over a certain amount.

I bought this cable because it is a good price for running IP cameras and the long runs I use POE. Seems to work well.

Q: What is the maximum length for a Cat5e cable?

A: The maximum length for a Cat5e cable run is 100 meters (328 feet). If longer runs are required, the use of active hardware such as a repeater or switch is necessary.

Q: What is the difference between solid and stranded cable?

A: Solid Cat5e is a 4-pair cable. Within each of the 8 individual wires there is a solid piece of wire covered by a PVC jacket. Because of the solid core of these cables they will be more rigid than stranded cable, but can carry a stronger signal than stranded wire. Solid cable also has the ability to be punched down in to jacks, patch panels, and 66 blocks.

Stranded Cat5e is a 4-pair cable as well. Within each of the 8 individual wires there are multiple tiny stands of smaller gauge wire that are held together by a PVC jacket. Because this cable is made with smaller strands of cable it is more flexible than solid core wire. Stranded Cat5e is typically use for short patch cables. Stranded wire cannot be punched down.

Q: What is shielded Cat5e cable?

A: Shielded Cat5e cable is used for increased protection from interference and crosstalk. It is typically used in electrical noisy environments. Common sources of interference are radio towers, high-powered electrical conduit, fluorescent lighting, or any other device emitting electro-magnetic or radio frequency signals.

Q: What’s the difference between the UL and ETL listed Marks?

A: Both marks demonstrate that the product that bears it has met the minimum requirements of widely accepted product safety standards as determined through the independent testing of a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). The only real difference between the Marks is in the service, and services, of the testing laboratory behind them.

Both the ETL and UL Listed Marks are recognized by local inspectors and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) throughout North America and also in some areas of South America.

Q: What is a flooded cable?

A: Flooded Cat5e cable uses a water blocking gel to protect the cable from water infiltration, even if the cable has a minor cut in the outer jacket. Flooded cable is typically used for direct burial outdoor applications.

Q: Will our Cat5e cable support Power over Ethernet (POE)?

A: Yes, all of our Cat5e will support Power over Ethernet.

Q: What does plenum rated mean?

A: Plenum (CMP) is a rating that is given to cables that have passed a stringent burn test and are able to be run through plenum air spaces. Plenum air spaces include drop ceilings and non-ducted HVAC air returns.
