Direct Burial Solid Shielded Cat5e is used for applications that require the cable to be outdoors or in direct sunlight. Direct burial Shielded Cat5e is made with a polyethylene (PE) to protect the cable from water, and extreme temperatures.  Internally an overall foil shield protects the cable from electromagnetic or radio frequency interference (EMI/RFI). Four color-striped pairs make it easy to install and reduces alien crosstalk. This bulk cable in an easy-pull box can be measured and cut to exact distances, then terminated to a connector, jack, or patch panel.

My deck is located appr. 50ft away from my home with a large garage located between the deck and house. The wifi signal from my router would just barely reach my deck and sometimes didn't work at all. I used this outdoor Cat5 cable to run a Wireless Access Point off of my router. Though it says you can direct bury it in the ground I chose to place it in conduit to further protect it. The produc

Great product for what I needed it for. Most places sell 1000 ft spools, only needed 100 ft, so I was very pleased. Had to replace DSL lines in my house because original lines weren't compatible with new DSL service... the new lines work great, haven't had any problems since.

Q: What is the maximum length for a Cat5e cable?

A: The maximum length for a Cat5e cable run is 100 meters (328 feet). If longer runs are required, the use of active hardware such as a repeater or switch is necessary.

Q: What is the difference between solid and stranded cable?

A: Solid Cat5e is a 4-pair cable. Within each of the 8 individual wires there is a solid piece of wire covered by a PVC jacket. Because of the solid core of these cables they will be more rigid than stranded cable, but can carry a stronger signal than stranded wire. Solid cable also has the ability to be punched down in to jacks, patch panels, and 66 blocks.

Stranded Cat5e is a 4-pair cable as well. Within each of the 8 individual wires there are multiple tiny stands of smaller gauge wire that are held together by a PVC jacket. Because this cable is made with smaller strands of cable it is more flexible than solid core wire. Stranded Cat5e is typically use for short patch cables. Stranded wire cannot be punched down.

Q: What is shielded Cat5e cable?

A: Shielded Cat5e cable is used for increased protection from interference and crosstalk. It is typically used in electrical noisy environments. Common sources of interference are radio towers, high-powered electrical conduit, fluorescent lighting, or any other device emitting electro-magnetic or radio frequency signals.

Q: What’s the difference between the UL and ETL listed Marks?

A: Both marks demonstrate that the product that bears it has met the minimum requirements of widely accepted product safety standards as determined through the independent testing of a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL). The only real difference between the Marks is in the service, and services, of the testing laboratory behind them.

Both the ETL and UL Listed Marks are recognized by local inspectors and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) throughout North America and also in some areas of South America.

Q: What is a flooded cable?

A: Flooded Cat5e cable uses a water blocking gel to protect the cable from water infiltration, even if the cable has a minor cut in the outer jacket. Flooded cable is typically used for direct burial outdoor applications.

Q: Will our Cat5e cable support Power over Ethernet (POE)?

A: Yes, all of our Cat5e will support Power over Ethernet.

Q: What does plenum rated mean?

A: Plenum (CMP) is a rating that is given to cables that have passed a stringent burn test and are able to be run through plenum air spaces. Plenum air spaces include drop ceilings and non-ducted HVAC air returns.
