My monitor has a pair of built in speakers and I wanted to add a higher quality set of speakers including a subwoofer. The 3.5mm stereo plug to dual 3.5mm stero jacks allowed me to connect both my monitor speakers and a pair of high quality speakers to the computer. The monitor speakers work as soon as I turn on the computer and the high quality speakers work as soon as I push their power button
